What better way to spend a chilly Saturday evening than in the company of your fellow slot car racers as you trade paint with and ultimately nerf them out of their slots and into the retaining walls. Tonight was a mini home-coming for the North Alabama Slot Car Racing Club, as John returned from a multi-month hiatus, along with Howard and Rick rolling back into town to pay NASCRC a visit. Others in attendance for this weekly race were Gary, Chuck, Steve, and Paul.
Tonight, NASCRC raced Mini Coopers, GT, Le Mans Prototypes, Slot-it, Trans Am, Vintage NASCAR, and Monograms.
As usual, the racing was competitive, the jokes were mostly bad, the free snacks and soft drinks were good, and the camaraderie was great.
At the end of the night, Paul had finally reached the top of the points list after having mediocre finishes for the last several weeks. Everyone was expecting the Iceman to be a little rusty after being away from the slot car racing scene for so long, but to everyone’s surprised, he proved to be the thorn in all of our sides, as if he never missed a week. His heat finishes were good enough to earn him 182 points at the end of the night, just 2 points shy of Paul. Steve settled for 3rd place with 174 with Gary a single point behind that. Chuck, who wasn’t feeling well, was knocked out of contention after closing up his pit boxes and calling it a night after five classes of racing. Rick and Howard had obviously gotten use to racing on their monster track with its extremely long straight-aways, thus they had a little trouble getting back into the rhythm of Fine Scale Hobbies shorter, more twisted road course. Still though, they put respectable points on the board and proved to be a challenge on the track for all in attendance.
This concludes this race report for the North Alabama Slot Car Racing Club.
